Texas State Requirements
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) approved continuing education (CE) hours are required to renew a cosmetology license. All cosmetology license renewals on or after September 1, 2008 must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
All Esthetician licenses must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
All Nail Tech licensees must show the completion of at least 6 hours of continuing education.
All licensees must obtain a Certificate of Completion for each class completed.

Florida State Regulations
All licensed cosmetologist and registered specialist shall complete a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of Continuing Education which shall include, at minimum, all of the following subjects as they relate to the practice of cosmetology:
- A minimum of two (2) hours of instruction regarding HIV/AIDS & other communicable diseases.
- A minimum of one (1) hour of instruction regarding Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
- A minimum of three (3) hours of instruction regarding sanitation and sterilization.
- A minimum of one (1) hour of instruction regarding issues of workers' compensation as they pertain to Florida law.
- A minimum of two (2) hours of instruction regarding chemical makeup as pertains to hair, skin and nails.
- A minimum of two (2) hours of instruction regarding state and federal laws and rules as they pertain to cosmetologist, cosmetology, salons, specialists, specialty salons, and booth renters; specifically including but not limited to Chapter 477, F.S., and the Rules of the Board.
- A minimum of one (1) hour of instruction regarding environmental issues.
- A minimum of four (4) hours of Continuing Education to be composed of additional instruction in any of the courses approved by the State of Florida for the purpose of Continuing Education.

Ohio State Regulations
- If this is your first Ohio license, you are not required to take continuing education for this next license renewal cycle. For licensees who must receive continuing education to renew their licenses, classes can be earned between now and January 31, 2009
- If you now hold an active Ohio license, you will need only eight hours of CE (continuing education), which must be earned by January 31, 2009. You may not report the same CE numbers more than once
- You must obtain a certificate of course completion to verify attendance and receive credit for the course(s). These certificates contain the Board approved Continuing Education numbers which you will need to provide on your next renewal card. The Ohio Board maintains records by approved course number only. You must have this course number to resolve any issues relating to your CE requirements and file.
- Natural Hair Stylist may only take courses dealing with hair braiding or extensions, etc.
- Hair Designers may only take courses dealing with hair-care.
- Estheticians may take only courses dealing with skin care.
- If you hold both active manicurist and esthetics licenses, you will be required to take eight hours for each type of license.

Georgia State Requirements
All licensed cosmetologists and registered specialists shall complete a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of Continuing Education which shall include, at minimum, all of the following subjects as they relate to the practice of cosmetology:
- Cosmetologist, Nail Technicians, & Estheticians must take 5 hours of Continuing Education. Three hours must be a Health & Safety Course including the DTAE curriculum, the other 2 hours may be filled with courses of your choice. Continuing Education requirements are due March 31st of even years, however there is a 6 month late renewal period for individuals who have missed the original renewal period. The same continuing education rules apply for late license renewals.
- Electronic Courses Allowed -- Continuing Education courses given over the Internet will be allowed as a means of acquiring your CE, after the courses are properly registered with the board.
- Waiver -- Licensees of 25 years or more may receive a waiver of the required Cont. Ed. Also, licensees who can prove that they have a hardship may request a waiver.
- No Test -- A test cannot be required to show that a C.E. course was successfully completed.

Illinois State Requirements
Cosmetologist licensees shall expire September 30th of each odd numbered year. Nail technicians shall expire October 31 of each even numbered year. A pre--renewal period is the 24 month period proceeding September 30 in the year of renewal. Cosmetologists Certify on the renewal application to successful completion of a minimum of 14 hours of continuing education and nail techs a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education from a cosmetology sponsor registered with the Division, in accordance with Section 1175.1200 of this Part, within the 2 years prior to the expiration date of the license. Half of the required continuing education hours can be acquired via online or correspondence.
